Two days in a chair, three on the road
Most mobile barbers in London who take a chair do it part time. The shop gives you walk-ins and a base for clients who prefer a shop; the road days pay more per hour. Day rates of £25 to £50 make the maths easy: one cut covers the chair and the rest is yours. Keep both diaries in one calendar. How much is chair rent in London?
£150 to £250 a week for a full-time chair in zones 1 and 2, £120 to £180 in outer London, from a sample of public adverts on 23 September 2026. Day rates run £25 to £50. Shops in Mayfair, Soho and the City ask more and usually want a full book on day one.
Where are chairs easiest to find?
East and south London: Hackney, Walthamstow, Leytonstone, Peckham, Croydon, Woolwich. Shops there open and expand fastest and post the most adverts. Central chairs go by word of mouth before they are advertised.
Can a mobile barber rent a chair part time?
Yes. Two or three days in a shop for walk-ins and regulars, the rest on the road, is one of the most common set-ups in London now. Ask for a day rate rather than a weekly rent, and keep your mobile bookings in the same calendar so the days never clash.
What do London shops usually include?
Chair, station, basin, electricity and the premises insurance. Products and towels about half the time. A card machine and the shop’s booking system less often. Always ask for the list in writing before you agree the rent.
